How to edit your video with windows movie maker and transfer videos to iPod, iPhone, PSP, Zune, Blackberry and all other portable players

part 1: How to edit your movies with Windows Movie Maker

Windows Movie Maker is a useful software program that comes already installed in all Windows XP computers. It is an easy to use video editing program that brings great convenience for you to edit your video. Before the edition, you should pay attention to your movie format. As Windows Movie Maker only supports AVI, WMV and MPEG format, you may convert your movie to those formats by Nidesoft Video Converterif necessary.
You could edit your movie in several ways listed below.
1. Adding Music and Sounds in Windows Movie Maker
a. Click Import audio or music under the Capture Video.
b. Add your audio file.
c. Select the audio file you want to add.
d. Change the timeline view to Storyboard View by clicking the Show Storyboard link.
e. In the Storyboard view, you may see the audio and music line, drag the audio file to this line.
f. you can trim the length of your music according to the length of your movie by dragging the right edge of the song. In this way can keep your music and movie ends at the same time.
Now you have added your music and sounds to your movie, you can preview it in the preview window on the right.

2. Add Video Transitions and Video Effects in Windows Movie Maker
a. Open your Windows Movie Maker project file. If your Movie Maker opens in Timeline view, you should return to Storyboard view by clicking the Show Storyboard link.
b. View your Movie Tasks, under the Edit Movie link, select View video transitions
c. Add the Video Transition
Select a transition effect you want and drag it to the Storyboard between two pictures.
Note: you could apply video transitions to all pictures by dragging transitions between each picture. You may use the same transition for all pictures or choose different transitions by your will.
d. Add Video Effects
Click View video effects under the Edit Movie section then you may see several effects, choose one and drag it to the picture below. You may preview your movies to see the effects.
3. Adding Titles and Credits in Windows Movie Maker
a. Click the Edit Movie section and you will see Make titles or credits, choose it.
b. Choose a Place.
You may have several choices of where to add a title. Choose a place for your title.
c. Enter Words of Your Title for the Movie
Enter your movie title and a subtitle in the blank box according to your desire.
You may also change the title animation and the font and colors of the title page by clicking more options.
After done those you can preview your movie in the preview window on the right.
If you are satisfied with the changes, click on Done, add title to movie
d. Add Closing Credits in Movie in Windows Movie Maker
Do the same way as adding a title, but instead, choose to add credits to your movie. You can also change the title animation and the font and colors of your credit page. Don’t forget to save the project.
e. Save the Movie Maker Project and the Movie File
Now your movie is complete, you’d better save the project in two different formats. One is saving the project in MSWMM format and another one is saving the movie in WMV format.

Tips: The movie project of MSWMM format is the working file so that you may continue to edit your video next time until you have a final version of your work. It can’t be used as a video file. The movie file of WMV format is the final output of your movie. Windows Movie Maker compresses all the parts of your movie into a single unit. The file size is much smaller and can be used. It can’t be edited.
Have finished the edition of your video, then you can transfer it to your player. As different players support different format, you need to convert your WMV videos before transfer it into your player.

Part 2: convert WMV file and transfer it into your players.


1. Please free download Nidesoft WMV Video Converter.
2. Install and run Nidesoft Video Converter. Click “add” button to import your video from your computer. Nidesoft iPod Video Converter supports batch conversion, so you can import multiple files at one time.
3. Then click the “Format” drop-down list to select the format you prefer. You may select the profile according to your portable player. For example, if you want to transfer your video into your iPod player, you may select the profile “iPod Video MPEG-4 (*.MP4)”.

Notes: you can customize the output video according to your will by a few clicks on the right. You can set the video size, choose the crop mode to cut off the black edges, set the video and audio quality.
