How to convert DVD to Blackberry Storm, convert AVI, FLV, WMV, MKV, Youtube videos into Blackberry

Introduction: This guide will show you how to Convert DVD to Blackberry Storm, convert flv, avi, wmv, mkv and other format video into Blackberry Storm. How to transfer mp3 audio files into Blackberry as ringtone. How to set videos resolution, video size, How to put DRM protected files into Blackberry Storm.

If you got a Storm like me then you're no doubt absolutely in love with the gorgeous screen. Sure it comes with a sweet Babylon A.D. trailer, but I just had to have some more video to pack onto that 8 gig card to show off to all my friends. So I slaved away looking at the video settings of the Babylon A.D. trailer to figure out the optimal video settings for the Storm. If you already know what your doing here's the dirty details.
Output Container: mp4
Video Codec: MPEG-4
Audio Codec: AAC-LC

Video Scale Size:
If your source is 4:3 use 480x360
If your source is 16:9 use 480x270
Use 1:1 Aspect ratio for both.
Frame/Sec: 25
Video Bitrate: 1248kbps

Audio:
Audio Bitrate: 64kbps
Sampling Freq: 44100
Channels: Mono (will reduce file size) or Stereo (Might sound better with headphones, but probably not worth it for the size increase.)

Now if you have no idea what to do with that, then here's some simple instructions for you.
First go to Nidesoft
If you get videos from DVD, you should do in this way:
download and install Nidesoft DVD to Blackberry Converter
step 1: Insert the DVD disc into the DVD Drive. Click the Open DVD button, browse your computer, find the DVD folder of the movie, open it and select tiles and chapters you want.

step 2: set your output videos according to the settings above including video format, video size, bitrate, resolution and so on.
step 3: if you thought you have complete the settings, click convert button to convert videos. OK, done.
If you get videos from movie maker or other format videos, then you should follow this way.
download and install Nidesoft Blackberry video converter.
step 1: Click “add” button to import your videos from your computer. Select the video files you want to convert. Also you may preview your video in the right window.
step 2: click the “format” drop-down list to choose format for your videos. set your video size, crop mode, video quality and audio quality on the right.
step 3: after all the settings made, click convert button to convert, then in few minutes it done.

After that copy your converted videos then drag them into your Storm and show off the videos.

Ok, so there may be some commen problems here:

Besides Storm, How do I convert videos into other Blackberry phones such as pearl, bold and curve?
go to another thread on my blog: http://bestvideoconvertersoftware.blogspot.com/2009/02/references-best-settings-for-all-your.html and get the settings for all other Blackberry phones, follow the same way as Storm to convert your videos. Of course, make different settings according to different phones.

I think there's a virus in this Program!!??
There's no virus in Nidesoft. One person reported being infected by Backdoor.Graybird, but if you got it from the site I linked to in my post it did not come with the download. If you downloaded it from somewhere else on the web then there's your problem. The site repeatedly tells you to only download Nidesoft from them. So I'm guessing that malware/spamers have probably uploaded it to phishing sites to snag people. Always make sure you download things from their original website, or from a trusted location like download.com, and always run antivirus and scan stuff you are installing.

Where do I find the files?
You may change the output directory by pressing "open folder", or it the destination will be set automatically at C:\temp

Why are there black bars on my video?
Even though it looks "widescreen" the storm is native 4:3 not 16:9. So unless you want to streach everybody and make them tall and skiny you will still have the black bars.

Is there a way to make it fullscreen without the black bars?
Yes, you can crop the file when you do the transcode, but I haven't done it with Nidesoft Blackberry video converter yet. I'll post it when I figure it out

Anyone tried to convert youtube videos? i always seem to get an error, following the above instuction, it still doesn't work. anyone know what i can do? maybe use a different video converter?
Just go to Nidesoft Youtube video converter to got the converter and paste the youtube url. Then download the "High Quality" MP4. It will play perfect on your Storm. More details you can go to another post of my blog: http://bestvideoconvertersoftware.blogspot.com/2009/02/how-to-get-videos-from-youtube-and-use.html

I'm trying to convert a movie purchased from itunes but the Nidesoft software gives me an error. When I view the details of the error it tells me not enough space on my drive. I have plenty of space.
Now when i tried it with a movie (same extension .m4v) that was ripped in the past, it works.
Any suggestions??

Meet DRM.
Itunes store video files are encoded with fairplay digital rights management that means they will only play on Itunes, Ipod, or AppleTV. I have find a way to solve this problem, go to: http://forums.crackberry.com/f135/howto-put-drm-protected-files-your-storm-pics-118585/

The higher the resolution the better the quality right?
Not necessarily at all. If you’re converting a video that is 640×480 and convert it to the same 640×480 resolution then all you’re leaving is more work for your phone. I understand the login behind it, the pixels get compressed and shop up more clear and sharper. But if you compress these pixels in the conversion process wouldn’t the same thing happen? So why not just convert straight to a 480×320 and 320×240 and save your Bold/Curve/Storm the trouble?

The higher the bitrate/frame rate the better the quality?
Yes, that is true. However, RIM won’t release the Bold Video Playback Specifications. That is why we are left guessing and people like me spend hours working different settings. So far the best results have hovered around 1500 bitrate and the frame rate doesn’t seem to be an issue. Usually when you receive bad audio/video lag it is because the bitrate is simply way too high.

OK, I just got those commen problems here now, if you encounter some other problems I haven't mentioned, you may post it here. I will update my thread everyday to solve your problems.
