New member of Android: Acer mobile phone series reviews
Acer has well and truly thrown its hat into the smartphone ring, with a slew of Android phones announced February. It’s not just the Liquid e that Acer is bringing out here at MWC 2010 and the company also has a number of o Android devices to choose from. Acer expect the beTouch E110 to arrive in March 2010, with the beTouch E400 following on in April. Across the board there’s 3G and Bluetooth, while on the E110 lacks WiFi b/g. No vast processor speeds here, though; at most you’ll get 600MHz. Both have a 3.2-megapixel camera together with GPS and a 3.5mm headphone jack. I have a short comparison summary about what the same features and what the different of both two phones.
Design
The Acer E110 is an attractive mobile phone that comes complete with 2.8 inches TFT resistive touchscreen with 240 x 320 pixels resolution that can display up to 256k (65K effective) colors. It runs on Android OS, v1.5 (Cupcake) and is powered by ST Ericsson PNX6715 416MHz processor. Weighted at 105 grams Acer E110 physically measures 103.5 x 54 x 13.4 mm.The handset is available in two colors - Black & Dark Blue
And The Acer beTouch E400 has a 3.2-inch TFT touchscreen resistive display that features a 320 x 480 pixel resolution with 256k colors. It measures 115 x 59.3 x 12 mm and weighs 125g that makes it very stylish and sleek. P300 packs an Accelerometer sensor for auto-rotate, Digital compass, Acer UI and Smart LED notifications also. This smartphone works on Android OS, v2.1 and has a processor of Qualcomm 7227 600 MHz processor that renders it great functionality. It comes in Soft-touch Black, Ceramic White and Pearl colours.
Memory
The Acer E110 comes complete with 256 MB RAM, 256 MB ROM internal memory that is expandable with the microSd card slot option. While the Acer beTouch E400 feature comes complete with 256 MB of RAM and 512 MB of ROM memory that can also be expanded with microSD card slot.
Both two phones’ phonebook memory allows entry of unlimited entries and fields, Photocall in the phone and it can also store unlimited call details.
Connectivity
The Acer E110 and Acer E400 both come with EDGE Class 10, 236.8 kbps and GPRS Class 10 (4+1/3+2 slots), 32 - 48 kbp technologies that gives high speed data transfer rates. The inbuilt Bluetooth Yes, v2.0 with A2DP and miniUSB connection allows the user to transfer data to another devices wirelessly. In addition, the E400 is 3G enabled phone has HSDPA at 7.2 Mbps and HSUPA 384 Kbps also embedded.
Multimedia
To keep the user entertained, both two phones come preloaded with MP3 and MP4 players that very well supports numerous music formats, such as: MP3 and WAV as well as MP4, WMV, H.264, H.263 etc and also equipped with alert options like vibration, downloadable polyphonic. The only one difference: the E110 has a stereo FM radio, but the E400 don’t have. They could not support all of video and audio formats. If I have a AVI file, what should I do? I search this question on Google and find good auxiliary software which named Nidesoft Video Converter which could convert video or audio files between all popular formats to convert AVI file to MPEG-4 format. Detailed process is as follows:
Firstly, you could free download and install Nidesoft Video Converter from: http://www.nidesoft.com/downloads/video-converter.exe.
When you finished the download process, run the .exe file to install it.
Step 1: Click “Add File” button to import your videos from your computer.
Tips: Click a file in the list and you could use the preview control buttons to play the file.
Step 2: Click "Format" combo box to select the output format, such as to mp4 for Sony or iPhone.
Step 3: Click “Convert” button to start conversion. The conversion will be completed in a short time.
Ok, now you have converted your AVI files to MPEG-4 format files which The E110 and E400 supports and you may use it more convenient. Another I also find Nidesoft DVD Ripper could rip DVD to multimedia phones’ video and music: 3GP, AVI, WMV, MP4, WMA etc. So, it is not a problem to watch your favorite DVD on mobile phone. I think these two Nidesoft software are necessary additional software for mobile phone users.
Camera
The Acer E110 and E400 are equipped with 3.15 megapixel camera that comes with 2048x1536 pixels resolution that is able to capture still as well as moving video footages and video recording feature. But E400 could support autofocus, LED flash and Geo-tagging and E110 don’t support.
Battery LifeTime
The Standard Li-Ion 1500 mAh battery of the Acer E110 comprises of 400 hours of standby time and 5 hours of talk time.
The Acer beTouch E400 has a Standard Li-Po 1090 mAh battery that gives 400 hours of standby time and 5 hours of talk time to its users.
Messaging
Both two phones can keep you connected with your family and friends easily with the inbuilt with SMS, MMS, Email and instant messaging features.
Network
The Acer E110 works on 2G GSM 850, 900, 1800, 1900 and 3G HSDPA 850, 1900, 2100 as well as HSDPA 900, 1900, 2100 networks.
The Acer beTouch E400 comes complete with GSM Quad-band phone capable of global roaming on 2G in configuration of 850/900/1800/1900 Mhz. The 3G network enabled on phone is in HSDPA 900 / 2100 and HSDPA 850 / 900 / 2100 configuration.
Conclusion
Shame about some of the specs, removing certain aspects to reduce the cost such as WiFi, the accelerometer and compass means this handset will fail to take full advantage of Android and won't be compatible with many of the apps which take advantage and use these features. The beTouch E110 does however look stylish and will come in Black & Dark Blue so take your pick if you still interested!
Other useful functions of the E400 include the GPS-enabled Google Maps, which will help you find your way around cities and/or towns and includes both Street View and Latitude. The excellent media player will play a full range of file formats and there is a built-in 3-millimeter audio input jack allowing you to plug in your choice of headphones. There is even the very useful Acer Synch feature, allowing the user to wirelessly synchronize with their desktop or notebook so they can easily maintain and keep files and contacts up to date, which is great for when you are ultra-busy and need to save time. Now, which one do you select, Acer E110 or Acer beTouch E400?
